About

What is DragonWorks Rocketry?  It is a name that I created, which combines my love for amateur Rocketry, and the vehicles, propellants and ground support that I “Work”with… adding that I am born in the year of the Dragon (Chinese Astrology), it all made since in the concept of the name.  I began launching rockets in 1978, my very first flight was an Estes Alpha on an A8-3 (pictured below).  I launched solo mainly, my brother, seen in the picture below, never really grasped the concept… or the sickness, that many of us have come to love about rocketry.

1st Rocket Launch

I took up rocketry again in 1997 when I was looking through the toy section in a Walmart, and I heppened across their model rockets section.  I picked up a starter set that had two generic ready to fly rockets, and I also grabbed a couple packs of motors, and I became a Born Again Rocketeer.  By the end of 1998 I was certified Level 1 and 2 with the National Association of Rocketry (NAR), and I have been plugging along ever since.  I have hit some bumps in the road, but for the most part, I have maintained my statu as a model rocketeer at heart.

Today, I am a member of the Tripoli Rocketry Association (TRA), with a Level III certification that I earned in the Summer of 2008.  I have continued to broaden my horizons with rocketry, flying all manor of rockets, using most any flavor of motor.  Currently my interested strongly lie with hybrid propulsion, a very advanced form of high power rocketry.  Although hybrids have lost their flare over the last couple years, it is still a subject that will draw the curious in for a closer look.
That’s me in a nutshell.  This website picks up where I have left off, so I will continue to add info as I make it, experience it, or find it.  My content and goals may change exponentially, but my base will always be about rocketry… thank you and I hope you enjoy.
